Privacy Policy
How Gesture Synth handles camera frames, hand landmarks, audio, recordings, and anonymous analytics locally without an account or cloud media storage.
Overview
Gesture Synth is designed to work without an account. Camera frames, microphone audio, hand landmarks, generated audio, and performance recordings are processed on your device. The service does not provide cloud media storage.
Camera and Hand Tracking
The browser asks for camera access as soon as you open the Gesture Synth homepage. If you grant access, the live camera preview appears while the on-device MediaPipe hand-tracking model loads. Camera frames are then read in memory by that local model. Gesture Synth does not upload, store, or share those frames or the hand coordinates produced from them.
You can stop camera access at any time by closing the page, revoking the browser permission, or disabling the camera. Gesture Synth stops active camera tracks when the instrument closes or restarts.
Camera, Audio, and Recordings
Synth audio is generated locally with the Web Audio API. Browser autoplay rules require you to click or touch the sound control once before audio starts. Gesture Synth does not request microphone access during ordinary playing.
When you choose to record, the browser asks for microphone access. Gesture Synth mixes microphone audio with the generated synth output and combines that audio with its live performance canvas, which already contains the camera view, hand landmarks, and visual feedback shown in the instrument. Recording does not open a screen-sharing prompt or access page controls, other browser tabs, application windows, or your desktop.
Microphone audio and recordings remain in browser memory until the recording is downloaded as MP4 or discarded. A recording stops automatically after five minutes or when the page closes. Gesture Synth stops the microphone track when recording ends and does not upload recordings or create cloud copies.
Anonymous Usage Metrics
When a Plausible Analytics domain is configured by the site operator, Gesture Synth may record anonymous product events such as:
- Camera startup requested when the homepage opens.
- Camera permission granted or denied.
- Sound enabled and hand-tracking engine ready.
- Two hands first recognized.
- Recording started or downloaded.
- An enumerated error category.
These events never include video, audio, recordings, hand coordinates, gesture values, or chord content. Plausible may also process ordinary page-level information such as page URL, referrer, browser type, device type, and coarse location according to the operator's Plausible configuration. Gesture Synth does not use analytics cookies.
Local Storage and Retention
The instrument does not create user accounts or save performances on a server. Browser permission choices and downloaded files are controlled by your browser and device. Anonymous analytics retention, when enabled, is controlled by the site operator's Plausible deployment.
Third-Party Software
Gesture Synth includes MediaPipe Tasks Vision for on-device hand tracking and uses browser APIs supplied by your browser vendor. Their software and browser privacy terms may apply independently.
Changes
This policy may be updated when the instrument or its data practices change. The revision date above identifies the current version.
