Gesture Synth Browser and Device Compatibility
What Gesture Synth has been tested with, what the browser must provide, and what to check before starting the online gesture synthesizer.
Short answer
Gesture Synth has been tested in Google Chrome. The complete experience needs a secure page, a working camera, browser audio, and enough device capability to run local hand tracking. That test result does not certify a particular Chrome version, operating system, device, camera, microphone, or extension setup.
What has been verified
Google Chrome: Gesture Synth has been tested in Chrome. The homepage requests camera access as soon as it opens. After permission is granted, the live camera preview appears while the local hand-tracking model loads. Select the centered play button to unlock Web Audio; tracking continues to load in the background. Normal playing does not request microphone access; Gesture Synth requests it only when you choose Record.
Other browsers: Edge, Safari, Firefox, and embedded in-app browsers are not currently promised. Their camera, Web Audio, canvas capture, MP4 recording, fullscreen, hardware acceleration, and permission behavior can differ by device. Use the messages inside the instrument as the source of truth if a feature is unavailable.
Before you start
- Open Gesture Synth over HTTPS in a current browser with a camera.
- Make sure no other application is holding the camera.
- Sit or stand where both hands fit inside the camera frame with clear lighting.
- Allow the camera when your browser asks. If it is blocked, follow camera permission help.
- When the live preview appears, select the centered play button and start at a comfortable volume. Only choose Record when you are ready to allow microphone access.
Features that depend on your browser and device
The browser provides camera access, the Web Audio API, canvas capture, MediaRecorder support, fullscreen, and the permissions UI. Gesture Synth uses a local MediaPipe hand-tracking model and tries GPU processing before a CPU fallback. That fallback can help when GPU setup fails, but it is not a guarantee that every device can run the instrument or create an MP4 recording.
